President Trump’s longtime personal assistant was fired and escorted out of the White House on Monday over security issues, according to multiple reports.

John McEntee was canned over issues with his security clearance and because he’s currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, sources told CNN.

The investigation is not related to Trump, the sources added.

McEntee was one of Trump’s longest-serving aides for the past three years, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first broke the news. McEntee was not allowed to collect his belongings when he was escorted from White House grounds. He left without his coat.

“It’s not going to be great for morale,” one White House official said of McEntee’s termination.

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to comment, saying, “We don’t comment on personnel issues.”

Part of McEntee’s duties were to make sure Trump had markers to sign autographs, deliver messages to him in the White House residence and, over the weekend, ensure that the clocks in the White House residence were set at the correct time for daylight-saving time, the Journal reported.

Minutes after his firing, McEntee was hired by Trump’s reelection campaign as a senior adviser for campaign operations, CNN said.

Katrina Pierson, a Trump campaign spokeswoman in 2016, was also rehired as a campaign adviser in 2020.

“As we build out our operations for the 2018 midterm elections and the 2020 reelection campaign, we are pleased to welcome back two outstanding members of our 2016 team,” Trump reelection campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. “We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President’s growing portfolio of achievements across the country.”
